We all want to make the right choices when it comes to arranging a funeral, making decisions which we think is ‘how they would have liked it.

Where the environment has played a significant part in a person's life - either as a keen interest, a way of life, or perhaps simply that it mattered - we now offer three environmentally-friendly coffins.

Using materials that help protect the environment, like willow, bamboo and biodegradable cardboard, the need for solid timber is reduced, which in turn safeguards the future of forests and woodlands.

A funeral is about remembering a life. By offering a range of environmentally-friendly coffins, in addition to our more traditional coffins, we hope to bring you the options you need to make the right choice - and make the day special.

The Coffin Surround

Made from biodegradable cardboard, the Coffin Surround arrangement reduces the impact on the environment and reduces the overall funeral cost - yet still provides all the benefits of a traditional coffin.

The Coffin Surround is a protective shell into which the biodegradable cardboard inner is placed. This gives the appearance of a high quality traditional coffin throughout the funeral, until the point of cremation, when the inner is removed.

The Coffin Cover is then folded flat and discreetly removed . As this is a re-usable item, only the biodegradable cardboard inner need be purchased - which is why the Coffin Surround arrangement provides such a low-cost, environmentally-friendly option.

 

The Willow Coffin

Made totally by hand in the UK, this is a natural willow coffin - and an exceptionally beautiful example of the environmentally-friendly coffins now available.

This traditional craft consumes no energy is its manufacture, requiring only the skill of the basket-maker. The sturdy willow coffin also consumes less energy for cremation and, for burial, the coffins are completely biodegradable - and decompose at a faster rate than the traditional coffin.

The Bamboo Coffin

The Bamboo Coffin completes the environmentally-friendly range of coffins we now offer. It is crafted using traditional weaving and carpentry skills - and is totally biodegradable.

The bamboo utilised is grown specifically for manufacturing purposes, and is ‘panda friendly’ in that the species of bamboo is not eaten by pandas. It is cultivated on plantations licensed by the Chinese government and then taken to a factory - with an adult workforce, responsibly managed - where the Bamboo Coffins are produced.
